Confidentiality

Being in therapy offers you the opportunity to overcome and
manage your fears and anxieties. It is a platform from which you
can find new ways to view your world and begin to feel happy
again and
therefore feel more hopeful about your future.
Many different elements need to be in place in therapy for this
to happen but nothing more important than your sense of safety
and confidentially.
Therapy is a confidential forum. It is up to you how much
private information you discuss with your therapist.
I will always
protect your business confidentially. I do not provide court
reports, assessments or act as witness for court proceedings.
This is the job of a counseling psychiatrist. No one has
access to your information and any request from any source for
information on clients is denied.
The exceptions to this rule include the following:
Where there is a threat to life and/or the safety of children.
In such circumstances, before talking to anyone outside the
confidentially of the therapy room, I will discuss my concerns
and intentions with you first and agree upon a course of action.
If both you and I feel it is to your benefit, we can inform your
Doctor of the work we are doing together, as this can help your
Doctor in his or her duty of care to you. But it is your choice.
Remember, nothing happens without you knowing first.
